- One cup of liquid is needed for all recipes
Every Instant Pot manual you will read will tell you that some steam is essential for pressure cooking. If there is no liquid, there can be no steam. Ido Fishman says a cup of liquid is a must, but you can also use stock or broth instead if the recipe calls for it.
- Clean the sealing ring regularly
You want the Instant Pot to be locked tight when you are using it and this means you have to use the sealing ring. Ido Fishman says that you can wash this ring with warm and soapy water and wipe it dry with a cloth, but it is a good idea to have an extra one handy. This allows you to use one for making savory food and one for sweet, as it can absorb flavors of what you are cooking.

- No need to thaw frozen food
One of the worst things during cooking is having to take stuff out of the freezer to leave it out to thaw long before you can actually cook it. Ido Fishman says that you don’t have to worry about this with an Instant Pot and this is a big advantage because it saves you prep time.
- No need to cook or soak dry beans and grains
Another beautiful thing about the Instant Pot is that you don’t need to cook your entire food all at once, particularly when dried ingredients are involved.
- Don’t follow the cook time in the recipe
Almost every Instant Pot recipe you are following will make it seem as if the time listed on it is the actual amount of time you will need. However, Ido Fishman says that the pot will need time to heat up before you begin cooking and later on, it will have to release pressure. Plus, you should also add 10 minutes to the overall cooking time. This is the actual cooking time involved and you should be prepared for it mentally.
- Use aluminum foil to clean leftover residue at the bottom
Sometimes, the bottom of your Instant Pot may burn because the recipe may not have enough liquid in it. Ido Fishman suggests that you soak it in dish soap and warm water and then scrub it offwith a crumbled piece of aluminum foil. It only takes a couple of minutes and you will have a clean pan.
