Muffins: Everything You Need to Know

Muffins are a great treat to have when you want to eat something tasty but don’t want to eat too much. Also, they are great all day long. We probably all have a favorite kind of muffin, but there is no question that the best muffin mix is the one you make at home. After a few minutes, when a muffin is still warm, it reminds us of good times, like when we baked with our families or waited for the treats to be done so we could get the first one.

The History of Muffins

The familiar muffin is a small, single-serve quick bread in the shape of a cup. It is often sweet and is usually served warm. The history of our best muffin mix goes back to the middle of the 19th century when the first recipes for muffins were written down. Muffins often have fruit, nuts, and spices in them. You can also add cheese, cheese, and vegetables for a savory twist. They go well with any meal or as a snack because they come in so many different flavors.

In the 1920s, Mr. McCollum of New Brunswick, New Jersey, was the first person to make a muffin mix. It was a corn muffin mix that he had people from his church try out. In the 1950s, muffins were first marketed as baked foods instead of packaged mixes because preservatives kept them from going bad quickly, and packaged mixes were hard to find.

Muffins Make Great Gifts

If you want to give muffins as a gift, make sure they are completely cool before wrapping them. When you wrap hot baked goods, they lose a bit of their freshness. If you’re sending a gift in the mail, make sure to bake it with your best muffin mix on the day you plan to send it.

You can wrap each muffin separately or all at once. Butcher or cellophane paper with twine or ribbons is often used. If you use ribbons, you can choose designs that fit the season or the color that the recipient likes best.

Having a personal note with your gift is always nice. If you know the person you’re writing to, tell them how much you value them. If you’re writing a note to welcome a new neighbor, it might tell them how to reheat your muffins or give them the best muffin mix so they can make their own after they’ve eaten yours.

If you want unique packaging, you can use canning jars, boxes with windows that show off your muffins, or a basket with a cute tea towel they can put in their kitchen. Be sure to always line your containers. This is especially important if your mix has oil or butter in it. It makes your gift look better, too.

If you want to add something to your package, think about the time of year. A small bell would look cute tied to a cardboard box with some twine. For the summer, you could also put a tea towel in the bottom of a small bucket and tie a ribbon around the handle. There are a lot of ideas.

Best Muffin Mix Flavors

If you can, use different kinds of muffins to make your gift. There is a lot to choose from at Lehi Mills. You can choose from blueberry, lemon, raspberry, and more. We also sell muffin mixes that are vegan and full of flavor.

With our Golden Harvest Muffin Mix, you can also make a muffin with whole grains. This mix has four grams of protein and tastes great on its own, but you can make it your own by adding fruits or nuts.

Suppose you want to know what kind of muffins people like the most. Blueberry muffins are the clear winner. You can add a topping of streusel or leave it out. Muffins with chocolate chips are a close second. With our best muffin mix, you can add chocolate chips to any of our flavors if you want to. Or, you can turn it around and use our chocolate chip cookie mix to make muffins.

What Else Can You Do With Muffin Mix?

Did you know that muffin mix can be used to make more than just muffins? If you want something different than muffins, try our Blueberry Orange Bread.

Blueberry Orange Bread

1 Blueberry Muffin Mix Box

2 eggs

1/3 cup oil

1 cup liquid

1 tbsp orange zest

1/2 cup of fresh blueberries

1 orange’s juice

1 cup of sugar powder

Extra orange zest for topping

Mix the muffin mix, 2 eggs, oil, water, and orange zest together to make the bread. Add the fresh blueberries and mix. Pour the batter into a loaf pan that has been greased. Add a few more fresh blueberries to the loaf’s top. Bake at 375 for 50-60 minutes. If the top starts to get too brown in the last 20 minutes, cover it with foil.

Mix the orange juice and powdered sugar together to make the glaze. Add more powdered sugar or juice until the consistency is how you want it. Pour the glaze over the blueberry orange bread that has cooled. Add more orange zest on top, and enjoy!

You can make delicious doughnuts with this same blueberry muffin mix. Your family will want more.

Blueberry Muffin Donuts

To make the donuts:

1 box of muffin mix from Lehi Mills

2 eggs

¼ cup oil

1 cup liquid

Butter or cooking spray

Follow the steps on the back of the box to make the batter. If you want to change things up, add the zest of a lemon or orange. Pour the batter into a plastic bag and cut off one corner with scissors once it is all mixed. Grease the donut pan a lot. Put a little bit of batter in the pan using a pipette. If you put more than 1/3 of the batter into each donut slot, the donuts will rise too much and lose their shape. Bake at 375 for 15 minutes. The sides should be golden brown and crispy, and the top will be much lighter. That’s fine because you’re going to put the glaze on that side anyway.

For the icing:

1 cup of sugar powder

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

2 spoons of water

In a bowl, mix together powdered sugar, vanilla, and water. Whisk until the mixture is smooth. The glaze needs to be clear. If there is too much liquid, add more powdered sugar. Dip each donut’s light side in the glaze. Place on a rack for drying.

Muffins are a treat that can be used in so many ways. You can quickly give them as a gift or just eat them when people come over. Or, serve them for breakfast like you always have.
